HR: Annual Staff Review

Completing the Form

The most important aspect of the review is the review discussion; the form is provided to help the reviewer and reviewee to structure the meeting and to provide a summary of the discussion for future reference.

The Annual Staff Review is an opportunity for all staff to have a formal discussion about their role.  All staff will receive feedback on their performance and will understand how the work they do contributes to the success of their department.

It is an opportunity for staff to highlight their achievements and to receive recognition for them, as well as identifying areas for improvement and/or personal/professional development.

All staff will agree objectives/priorities for the coming year that will help focus their efforts to enable their department to achieve its strategic objectives and priorities.  The review is also an opportunity for staff to highlight any problems they may have encountered in their role and to suggest ways in which these may be addressed.

Sample questions are provided to help reviewers structure their discussions.

The amount of information written on the review form will depend on the individual and the complexity of their role. The guidance provided will help reviewers and reviewees complete the sections on the formAny reviewers or reviewees requiring further guidance should contact a more senior colleague or HR representative in the first instance.

A copy of the completed form should be kept by the reviewer and reviewee and a copy sent to the Head of Department or Section.

The Department's Director of Research will see a copy of the completed PRP form for Academic Staff - this will be sent by the reviewer.
