North-East England History Institute (NEEHI)

The North-East England History Institute (NEEHI) was established in 1995 by the five north-east universities (Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland and Teesside), in association with other partners, including the Open University and Beamish Museum. Between 2000 and 2005 it was funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council as the Centre for North-East England History. The research publications arising from the AHRC Research Centre are now published (or in press) in NEEHI’s publication series ‘Regions and Regionalism in History’ with The Boydell Press. Book proposals for the series are welcomed.

NEEHI aims to stimulate and develop research into all areas and periods of the region's history. It promotes research projects; invites the participation of a wider audience – particularly through its Public Lecture Series and Annual Conference, and provides a coherent framework to publicise the area's wealth of historical resources.
