About the Bede Film Society

The Bede Film Society, Durham's biggest and best student cinema, is based in the College of St. Hild and St. Bede at Durham University. Formed well over 30 years ago by a group of students with an interest in cinematography, we are now a Society dedicated to bringing the newest and biggest films to Durham, for the viewing pleasure of students from across the university.

BFS continually strives to bring the audience the best possible viewing experience, and we currently use industry standard 35mm projection in conjunction with Dolby Digital® surround sound. We screen films twice weekly, with frequent midweek films every term, ranging from the latest cinema blockbuster to arthouse and international films.

We are a Society run by students, for students, and so lots of fun is to be had each week. Before every film, our sweet stall boasts an extensive range of sweets and chocolates that will satiate even the pickiest of customers, and all for very affordable prices! The Vern, our college bar, is next door so sweets and drink what more could you need? BFS also holds special events ranging from free films from our sponsors to charity films and even special screenings with discussion panels.

So when you are looking for a relaxing evening watching a film on the biggest screen in Durham, simply come on down to the BFS and enjoy the true cinema experience for real student prices.
