President

Sarah Unwin

Sarah sleeps, eats and breathes Hild Bede. Having graduated this summer in Law, Sarah has spent the last three years firmly involved in student life. She has captained the women’s rugby club, helped to organise two college ski trips and spent a year as the SRC Clubs and Socs Officer, overseeing all of the college student societies. Sarah is a full time employee of the SRC, which makes her on hand to all students almost 24 hours a day throughout term time. Sarah is ultimately responsible for the running of the SRC and leading her team of executives. In doing this Sarah represents Hild Bede students both within the college (liaising with staff) and on a university wide level. Along with her exec, Sarah will make sure you have an unforgettable freshers’ week and are suitably welcomed into the college community. Sarah is friendly and approachable and always has time for everyone so make sure you come and say hello! She can usually either be found in the SRC Office, the President’s flat, in the bar, or just generally around college.

Deputy President

Deputy President

Thomas Ronan

As well as being Sarah’s number two, Thomas organises all of college’s fantastic formals and the legendary Hild Bede College Day. Tom also plays a great representative role by sitting on nearly every single college committee, and with his super-charming, smooth welsh accent he acts as a brilliant means for getting the student voice heard! While at Hild Bede Tom has been the SRC chairman, helped to organise two epic college balls, been Head Frep and was once rumoured to be heading up a new Star Wars/ Sci-fi society…. Well, I suppose you can’t be cool all the time.

Treasurer

Treasurer

Michael Hartley

Pretty self explanatory really– Michael looks after all of the SRC’s money. He is in charge of our budget, tax returns etc so, if you have any problems with cheques or paying for ents, Michael is the one to talk to...And talk to you he shall– I can guarantee that you will never meet anyone with more personality than Michael! A keen Theatre Society member, Michael is not only the perfect person to cheer you up and make you laugh, he is also a great listener and a true friend to all.

Ents Officer

Ents Officer

Nemo Kafai

Nemo is like a piece of social dynamite. He knows just about everyone in college and is always keen to get people together through college events to keep up the college community and spirit. Nemo heads both the ents committee and ball committee, through which he organises college’s incredible winter and summer balls as well as many other events either in the bar or around college. He also helps Sarah to organise the unforgettable freshers’ events that you’ll soon be lucky enough to experience. If there are any events you want organising in college, he’s the man to talk to. Nemo has also recently started a new college Poker Society so grab him for a chat if you want to get involved.

Senior DSU Rep

Senior DSU Rep

Jessica Barry

Jessica is an energetic Hild Bede enthusiast with her main goal being getting the Hild Bede voice heard! Luckily she’s the perfect person to do this, being both a brilliant public speaker and an infamously outspoken character. Jess is our representation to DSU (Durham’s umbrellas student union) and acts as a link between DSU and the SRC along with her junior reps. Having been on the exec last year Jess is used to mucking in and helping to ensure that you freshers have a brilliant start at Hild Bede. If there are any potential female rugby players out there watch out– as the new team captain Jess will be on the look out for new recruits!

Welfare Campaigns Officer

Welfare Campaigns Officer

Katherine Newton

If there was a prize for the most kind-hearted, compassionate person it would undoubtedly go to Kate. Quite a fortunate coincidence really considering she is responsible for student welfare within the SRC. However, she’s no push over as proved by her being this year’s captain of Hild RFC! Kate’s role is to raise awareness about welfare campaigns, issues and events in college Kate is there to point you in the right direction if you ever have a problem which you would like to discuss or if you need any welfare information, no matter how trivial it may seem. She also is responsible for sexual health supplies in college.

Clubs & Socs Officer

Clubs & Socs Officer

Jessica Pauley

Jess is in charge of one of the most important aspects of college life, the student clubs and societies. Jess is the one to go to for any info if you want to join a club or if you’re interested in setting up your own club (yes you can do that!) Jess is always busy but always has time for a smile and a laugh. You’d be likely to see her working behind the bar in the Vern, having a good run around on a rugby pitch or in print form writing for the university newspaper, Palatinate. Jess is the link between all of Hild Bede’s many societies, Team Durham and the SRC. She will keep everyone updated on the progress of sports teams and other societies and is in charge of getting all of Hild Bede naked… yes in calendar form!

Bar Officer

Bar Officer

Harriet Bellamy

There is never a quiet moment when Harriet’s around. She can often be seen working behind the bar offering witty banter or behind the scenes organising our many events- the biggest being Hild Bede’s annual Beer Fest. The Vern is one of the main focal points of college life and as it is by and large a student run bar, Harriet’s the person to talk to if you want anything changing, be it the drinks we serve, the television programmes we show or any other entertainment we can put on for you. Any keen female footballers out there? As club captain of the Mooses, Harrie would be the one to call!

Community and Environment Officer

Community and Environment Officer

Emily Hickson

Emily leads a team of four environmental reps in order to increase awareness of environmental issues in college events and campaigns, she is also in charge of co- coordinating the college recycling scheme. Emily is also a big face around college having directed a college play, been heavily involved in DUCK’s various charity events and played for Hild RFC while acting as the club’s social secretary. As well as being passionate about the environment Emily is incredibly friendly and approachable.

Chair

Chair

Thomas Bowden

Tom is a charismatic, cheeky, charming lad– the perfect person to be SRC Chair. Tom chairs SRC meetings, which are an ideal opportunity to share your views and make suggestions about college life. Contact him if you have ideas about anything SRC related. He also maintains democracy within the SRC and makes sure that everything is done by the book. Tom is no stranger to taking centre stage after playing a lead role in the Freshers play last year. A good person’s brain to pick about anything theatrical.

Committees

Exec

Exec

Head of Committee: Sarah Unwin

Though the college provides a great deal for the students of Hild Bede, it is the SRC Executive Committee (or Exec) who deal with the student aspects of college life, as well as much of the pastoral and administrative provision within the college. At the head of the Exec is the President, a Hild Bede graduate who has opted to work for one year on behalf of the students. The other eleven Exec members work alongside her and this branches out into a number of Non-Executive Officers whose workload is less but still important.

Freshers' Reps

Freshers' Reps

Head of Committee: Emma Cave

These guys and girls will devote themselves to ensuring you have an amazing fortnight. Led by Emma Cave, they will be dancing around Durham in bright red t-shirts, making sure things run smoothly and offering you plenty of great chats, help and advice. Characters around college, the Freps are here to help you settle in and feel at home Hild Bede style!! Their Hild Bede shirts were earned through a rigorous election process which included showing off their signature dance move on stage and looking after ‘drunk’ exec members, and they are on hand almost 24hrs a day throughout Freshers’ fortnight with the Exec.
