Choosing Hatfield
We encourage you to nominate a preferred college using one of the UCAS college codes in your UCAS application. The college you choose will not in any way affect your chances of getting an offer from the University; that decision is made by your academic department.
If the academic department to which you apply decides to make you an offer, your application will be forwarded to the college of your choice. If your preferred college cannot allocate you a place, your application will be passed to an alternative college; find out more about college allocations.
If you prefer not to select a college then this is known as making an 'open' application. If you make an open application, the University will select a college for you on your behalf.
If you would like to choose Hatfield as your preferred college, please do this by entering "DUR/2" in the Campus Code column in your UCAS application.
What are we looking for?
Hatfield attracts a large number of academically strong, high calibre applicants. Preference is given to candidates who can offer a contribution to the strong community spirit of College through music, drama, sport or other areas of interest and achievement beyond the academic. Hatfield is interested in applicants who can demonstrate a variety of experience as well as academic achievement and potential. In normal circumstances, preference will be given to applicants who state Hatfield as their choice.
Mature students
If a mature student states a preference for Hatfield, we will consider the application and talk to the candidate. We would strongly recommend that mature student applicants visit the College and arrange for a personal meeting with the Senior Tutor to discuss their application to Hatfield.
