Hatfield College

SHAPES

The Supporting Hatfielders’ Academic Progress, Employability and Skills (SHAPES) Programme started in June 2010 thanks to the support of the Hatfield Trust.

SHAPES is driven by Hatfield’s vision of continuing to thrive as a community of scholars sharing a sense of citizenship, loyalty and belonging, with each College member taking responsibility for their own development and contributing to the development of others. The programme will also be looking beyond College to ensure that all of Hatfield’s graduates are able to make the transition from university to work, or further study, as smoothly as possible.

The main aim of SHAPES is to ensure that all members of the College, particularly undergraduate members, are aware of the wealth of learning and development resources available to them in College, the University and beyond. SHAPES is not about usurping College members’ prime responsibility for their own learning and development but rather facilitating their access to resources to help them manage their own learning and development and make the most of the opportunities afforded by Hatfield College and Durham University.

SHAPES reflects Durham University’s overall Education Strategy by offering a distinctive and integrated approach to the intellectual and personal development of all members of College. The Programme also aims to ensure that its graduate and postgraduate members are in high demand by developing: research, influencing and communication skills; the ability to manage their own intellectual, personal and professional development; and the qualities of leadership, creativity and entrepreneurialism.

The SHAPES Programme can be accessed by all Hatfield students through DUO, Durham's online learning environment.
