Self-catering at James Barber House

Our accommodation in James Barber House is completely self-catered offering large kitchen space and a dining room.  All students have cupboard, fridge and freezer space allocated to them.

Students need to provide their own cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery.

Self-catering students may, however, take meals in College on either a regular or an occasional basis; simply purchase a meal ticket at Reception.  A different pricing structure is in place for Formal dinners and Guest Nights.

Formal Dinners

Formal dinners ('Formals') are held regularly throughout term times and are full of fun with all the ceremony of long tradition, some unique to Hatfield like 'spooning', with students in gowns and senior members of the College and their guests seated on High Table.

Postgraduates have a ticket allocation for Formals, and need to sign up in advance by contacting the MCR Secretary when dates are advertised as available through the weekly MCR mailing.

If you are an Affliated Member of the MCR, and will be visiting Durham, please contact Dr. Anthony Bash for information on dining at Formals.
