Gatehouse and the Porters' Lodge/Reception
As you enter Hatfield College, Gatehouse is the first building on the right. The Porters' Lodge is situated within Gatehouse. Manned during the day by the College Receptionist and throughout the evening and night hours by the College Porters. This is the first port of call for visitors and guests. Gatehouse offers 18 single and 5 twin rooms.
The Chapel
The College Chapel is the focus for religious life in the College. It is also a place for reflection and quiet contemplation. The Chaplaincy is Anglican with a strong chapel choir (entry by audition in the first week of the Michaelmas Term). The Chapel is open to all and warmly invites members of the College community to attend any service. The Chaplaincy also hosts the Hatfield College Interfaith Forum for people of all faiths and of none.
The Dining Hall and Kitchen Block
The Dining Hall is early Georgian and the oldest part of the College. Capable of seating up to 200 people, the Dining Hall, with its portraits of the past Masters of Hatfield, provides an elegant setting for the College's Formal meals. A small number of Fellows' flats and student rooms are located above the Dining Hall.
A number of the College staff are located in Kitchen Block; unsurprisingly you will find the offices of the Food Services Manager, Head Chef, Housekeeper, Bar Manager and Services Coordinator. The University's Environmental Team can also be found on the first floor of Kitchen Block.
The Senior Common Room Dining Room
With its Chinese tapestries, antique bookcase, and bay window overlooking the riverbanks this is one of the most attractive rooms in the University. Seating up to 22 people the room is often used by College Tutors to entertain their students, or for College meetings.
The Senior Common Room
As the name suggests, this is used by the friends and staff of the College as a place to relax and meet. Again, students do often use this room when meeting with Tutors.
The Junior Common Room
One of the main social spaces in College is the JCR Common Room, comprising TV Room and Games Room, found at the bottom of A & B Stairs in the Melville Building. There is also a JCR Exec Room in C Stairs where you can catch up with members of the JCR Exec (surprisingly!)

The Middle Common Room
The Middle Common Room is found in C Stairs and is a meeting place in College for postgraduate students to get together and relax.
C & D Stairs Accommodation Blocks
Comprising of 20 single and 16 twin rooms, these areas are in the centre of College.
Melville Building, A & B Stairs
These particular 25 rooms were subject to a £1M refurbishment in summer 2004. This makes them the best twin-bedded rooms in the University. They are the only student rooms in the University which, when used for guests in the vacation, have been accredited with "VisitBritain" four diamond rating. All but two rooms are twin rooms and all except two rooms are en-suite.
The Rectory and the Birley Room
The Rectory is the College's main administrative block. You will find the Master, the Senior Tutor, the Bursar, the Chaplain & Tutor for Postgraduates, the Senior Administrative Secretary, the Senior Tutor's Secretary, the Accountant & Finance Administrator, the Bursar's Secretary, the Bursar's/Finance Assistant and the Hatfield Trust/Association all in this building.
You will also find a further 17 student rooms of which 7 are twin bedded.
The Birley Room is also part of the Rectory Building and is used for meetings, play rehearsals, discos, dining and musical events during term time and vacation.
Palmers Garth
Again, situated across the river, Palmers Garth houses 59 students in 10 twin and 39 single rooms. To quote the JCR Handbook it offers "a real spirit of a community within a community" and is only a minute's walk from College across Kingsgate Bridge. Palmers Garth has its own TV room, laundry and all rooms (like those in College) are linked to the University IT Network. A Resident Warden (usually a postgraduate student) lives in this block and is available to the residents for advice, support, tea and biscuits.
Pace Building
Incorporates the Library, Reading Room, Gym, a self-catering kitchen and E, F, G and H Stairs. Presently it houses 42 students.J Stairs
Offering 14 single rooms and overlooking Dunham Court, resident are conveniently located for the College Laundry which is on the the ground floor of this block.
Jevons Building
Comprises of K, L and M Stairs and offers 45 rooms including the 3 flats used by the JCR Executive Officers. The College Bar is also located in Jevons Building.
Bailey House
The last purpose-built accommodation for the College. Bailey House offers 50 single rooms in a block which is opposite the Gatehouse on North Bailey.
