Durham University Hapkido Club was established in 1998 to introduce this fast growing martial art to the UK and has been growing ever since.

Hapkido is a Korean Martial Art of Self Defence. An comprehensive mix of ancient Korean Martial arts, it combines a range of techniques including joint locks, throws, dynamic kicking and weapon's techniques. Hapkido does not require great size or strength to be practiced and is a practical means of self defence for both men and women of all sizes and builds.

Duk Moo Hapkido is also a scientific martial art in that it makes use of knowledge gained from Korean medicine such as in our pressure point techniques. Duk Moo Hapkido is also notorious for the consistency and uniqueness of its techniques. For example, once you learn Kwonsul (the empty hand attacking techniques), you can apply them into sword, long staff and cane techniques.

We train under the tutorship of Master Kim Beom, son of Grand Master Kim Duk In, 9th Dan. Master Kim currently holds the highest level of Hapkido in this country as 7th Dan in Hapkido and 6th in Taekwondo.

Please browse the site to find out more about Hapkido. We encourage you to come and train with us at our Dojang.
