Top Tip #1
Switch to energy-saving light bulbs (CFLs or LEDs) in your bedside/desk lamp. As well as using 80% less energy, they last longer too!
Top Tip #2
If you can turn DOWN your radiator, DO, and wear an extra jumper!
Top Tip #3
Every time you leave your room, turn OFF your lights, music and other electrical appliances.
Top Tip #4
Remember to use the blue-bagged bin in your room to recycle paper and cardboard, and the labelled bins in your nearest kitchen to recycle (washed) tin, glass and plastics.
Top Tip #5
Save paper: if you have to print something out, minimise your margins to 'narrow' and use font size 10/11; not 12
Top Tip #6
When you're not watching a film/TV, change your laptop power settings from 'High performance' to 'Power saver' mode.
Top Tip #7
Let your laptop go to standby after 15 mins. This will also remind you to stop day-dreaming and do some work. Plus, if you use a screen saver make sure it’s blank, otherwise it’s not actually saving energy.
Top Tip #8
Eliminate (unnecessary) showers. If you're playing sport later, or going out in the evening, then cut out your morning shower to prevent showering twice. It doesn’t hurt to a bit speedier while you're in there either!
Top Tip #9
If your corridor has a bath, don't use it! (As well as using up a lot more water, it probably isn't advisable on health grounds anyway...)
Top Tip #10
As soon as your phone/camera/mp3 finishes charging, unplug the charger as they continue to use up energy even after the battery is full.
