Hi Grey,
I have now uploaded the quarterly reports for Q3 and Q4 2012 and Q1 2013 to my blog. These have all been fully approved by the Trustee board and presented to College Council so feel free to have a look through and ask any questions.
I have also uploaded the end of year account completed by our external accountants Ribchesters, these are being sent to the charity commission who require accounts in what can seem a strange format so any questions again, feel free to ask.
All the best,
Nicole

Several people had questions and I was caught slightly off guard at the time. I will endeavour to provide more satisfying answers:
Why is Firewords budgeted to run a £2000 defecit?
Fireworks did a fantastic job this year, running a significant surplus; however since it is an event which involves fundraising this is hardly guaranteed. It would be irresponsible to plan for the event to always be so successful, using only the previous year’s data for the new budget. Looking over the previous years, £2000 seems an appropriate figure, showing both the level of commitment of those involved in the fundraising and the uncertain nature of all fundraising.
Should the JCR as a charity aim to run a Deficit this year?
In short, no. However the JCR has been running at a deficit for the last few years, planning for bar surpluses that have not appeared. It is better to show our accounts as they are rather than how we would with them to be. With this in mind, the treasury team has been aiming to reduce this deficit year by year so that in 2014 we will be back on track. If we did not do it like this it might involve removing an event which would be a great shame, especially while we have a significant amount of reserve funds. This year due to the massive success of fireworks and barfest it looks like we will run a surplus despite this, but it is always best practice to budget for what could be considered the worst case scenario.
I hope this answers your questions and any other enquiries can be emailed or texted to me.
Yours,
Nathan Young

Transparency is a buzzword that is used a lot. To such an end I have uploaded the college accounts. I acknowledge they are quite hard to understand and in the next few days I hope to post a more concise version. Suffice it to say, if you like spreadsheets, you'll love this.
