Grey College chapel

Grey College welcomes students of all faiths or of none and makes no distinctions on the basis of religion. The College employs a part-time Chaplain to cater for the  needs of its students and staff; and there is a chapel which is used for regular services and quiet reflection.

The Chapel

Grey College is very fortunate to have its own College Chapel. Named the "Lattin Chapel" after Frank Lattin (former College Bursar), it is situated in Fountains Hall and provides the College with a sacred space — a place for quiet contemplation and prayer — and is the spiritual heart of the College.  It is a consecrated place of Anglican worship, but is available to all who wish to use it respectfully. In particular, the Chapel may be used by those of other faith traditions, by agreement with the Chaplain and the Master. It is also used by College societies on occasions, such as the Choir and Christian Union. Individual members of the College may also use the Grand Piano for music practice.

The Chapel is simple in its beauty, and is enhanced by a variety of religious art, including works by internationally-renowned artitsts such as Thetis Blacker and Fenwick Lawson.

Services

Services are usually held on Wednesday evenings. A full list can be found on the SCR website, or send an email to majordomo@dur.ac.uk with the text “subscribe gr-chapel” in the message body for regular chapel updates.
