Environment Week 2011
The University's Environment Week took place between Monday 24th & Sunday 30th October 2011
During the week, various activities took place along with messages promoting living and working in a more sustainable way. In addition, an Environment and Sustainable Travel Fair took place at the Calman Learning Centre, Durham City Campus between 10am and 2pm on Monday 24th October and at the Sports Hall, Queen's Campus, Stockton between 10am and 2pm on Tuesday 25th October. There was an opportunity to learn more about environmental initiatives, details about energy, the University's recycling scheme, car sharing, cycling and lots more. Some exhibitors ran competitions and had lots of useful tips such as how you can contribute to saving energy.
A full programme of events, including walks, nordic walking, bike rides, bike maintenace session also took place throughout the week and are listed below. All activities are free of charge but some events required signing up to as there were limited numbers.
The week also saw the launch of the new Environmental Sustainability on-line training module. This is available on DUO. All staff and students are encouraged to undertake the module which has video clips and interactive activities about environmental issues at the University.
The e-Christmas card competition was also launched during the week and all staff and students were encouraged to take part.
Guess the correct number of sugar sticks in glass jars and win a Fairtrade hamper. Jars were located in the Calman Cafe, Waterside Dining Room, Cafe Aroma and all Colleges Bars at Durham. The competition ran throughout the week.
Students also held different events and activities at their individual colleges, such as Green Formals, litter picks, creating recycling sculptures.
