News and Updates
- Stockton's Big Challenge - Stockton's Active Travel Hub are running "Stockton's Big Challenge" again this year. Queen's Campus won it's category in the competition last year and we need you to sign up to ensure we repeat our success this time round. Simply enter online and all you have to do is record details of any walking that you do for more than five minutes and any cycle journey of over one mile in connection with travel to work. By doing so, you will not only help with the challenge but you will be giving yourself a healthy work out as well as the opportunity to win a number of great prizes. To enter the competition see the Stockton's Big Challenge website.
Battery Recycling Tubes
Staff and students can recycle used batteries by using the various battery recycling tubes around the Campus. These tubes can be found in the following places:
- Holliday Building, Reprographics
- Holliday Building, Reception
- Ebsworth Building, Reception
- Stephenson College, Reception
- John Snow College, Reception

New Cycle Storage Shelter
Less than two years since the opening of the original shelter in November 2009, an extension was completed. This takes the number of bikes that can be safely stored from forty to sixty, in addition to the shelters at each of the Colleges.
With the increased interest in cycling that we're experiencing, a new secure cycle shelter with a capacity for 20 bikes is to be built adjacent to the inlet between the Holliday Building and the Wolfson Research Institute. We hope that this facility will be ready for the start of the new academic year. It will help provide security for students and staff who spend their time in the Holliday and Wolfson buildings.
Did you know?
- on average, cyclists live two years longer that non-cyclists
- regular cyclists are as fit as an average person 10 years younger
- cyclists breathe in less pollution from traffic than car drivers
- cycling firms the thighs, bottom and can even help tone the stomach muscles
- cycling raises your metabolic rate, helping you keep weight off
- and it's one of the most sustainable forms of travel!

Riverside Rescue at Queen's Campus
On Wednesday 5th December 2012 Queen's Campus students braved the weather to help with a riverbank clean up.
The event which was organised by Student Community Action offered a great opportunity to get outside in the fresh air and do a bit of conservation in the local area. Volunteers helped to clear overgrown vegetation and shrubbery and did an excellent job tidying up the riverbank.
