The Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) is a national survey of all postgraduate research students inviting them to comment on their programme and experience. It is designed to help institutions learn more about the specialist needs of postgraduates and the extend to which these are being met.

If you are a research postgraduate student, the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey is your chance to tell us your thoughts about your programme. It is also your opportunity to tell us what you like and the things you feel could be improved. Your feedback is important. More than 31,000 students from 102 institutions took part in the last PRES. This means that we can compare your experience against similar postgraduates at other institutions to see if we are supporting your learning as we should.

PRES will ask you about things like supervision, resources, research culture, progress and assessment, responsibilities, research skills, professional development, opportuniites and overall experience.

The survey is coordinated nationally by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and within the University by the Academic Support Office. The survey is completed online and is open to all University research postgraduates.

Taking part

You will receive an email from the University in your Durham email account on Tuesday 19 March 2013 with an invitation to complete the survey online; this email will include a link to the survey. Simply click on the link and complete the form.

You should contact the Academic Support Office at pg.admin@durham.ac.uk if you have not received this email.

The survey is open until Thursday 16th May 2013.

    • The survey is straightforward and should take no more than 15 minutes to complete.
    • Your contact details will not be used for any other purposes.

If you do not respond to the survey

    • We value student feedback and so would like the survey to collect the views of as many participants as possible.
    • If you do not respond to the survey invitation, you may receive a follow-up email reminding you to take part.
