Biography

B.Sc (Open) in Earth and Biological Sciences. The Open University

Master of Research in Earth and Atmospheric Science. Reading University. Awarded 1997

Ph.D. at the National Oceanographic Centre in Southampton, University of Southampton. “Centennial-resolution palaeoceanography of the Aegean Sea; 15,000 BP – Present.” Awarded 2001.

My current research interests focus on climate variability and the palaeoceanography of marginal basins, particularly the Eastern Mediterranean. Marginal basin settings generally exhibit elevated sedimentation rates. These basins also have smaller volumes than the open oceans and so respond more rapidly to climate change. These factors combine to provide both a high resolution and an amplified signal in the proxy records that is idea for investigating regional expression and global implications of abrupt changes in climate.

Cruise Participitation

Invited scientist on the R.V. Meteor Scientific cruise M51/3. Coring and providing micropalaeontological support. Chief Scientist Herr Professor Dr. C. Hemleben, November - December 2001.

R.V. Aegeo Commercial cruise in the Aegean Sea included gravity coring and CHIRP survey for telecommunications cable laying. May 1998.
