Title: "Modelling the Last Glacial-Interglacial Cycle"

Abstract: Understanding and modelling the changes in climate over the last 120,000 years is probably one of the ultimate challenges of palaeoclimate research. Models have traditionally either focussed on particular time periods (such as the mid-Holocene or Last Glacial Maximum) or used highly simplified, low resolution models to look at the transient changes. The talk will present a unique series of model simulations covering the whole of the last 120,000 years. We will compare the results to observational data and to examine the mechanisms of change within the model. We will also consider a variety of different feedback mechanisms, including the interactions between climate and vegetation, methane, and ice sheets. The results suggest that we have some skill at modelling these processes. However, the causes of the long term changes in carbon dioxide remains elusive.
