Department of Geography

The Application Process

We expect all students to have at least two supervisors and they will be nominated by the Geography Admissions Tutors (who may be contacted via physical.rpgadmissions@durham.ac.uk or human.rpgadmissions@durham.ac.uk). If you have made contact with any other members of staff, please let the admissions tutor know.

Once you have a supervisor, there will be a period of iteration between you and them as you together develop a research idea into a research proposal. This should become the backbone of your application to the University to study in the Department of Geography. It can normally be done by email, but we will be happy to arrange a tour of the Department for you should you wish to and be able to visit in person. Please note that the decision to accept you will only be taken once you have developed your proposal and applied to the University, and that developing a proposal with a potential supervisor does not constitute your acceptance for study.
