Royal Commission for the 1851 exhibition fellowships

These give a few young scientists of exceptional promise the opportunity for conducting research for a further period of two years. Approximately six awards are made each year. Candidates must normally be in possession of a PhD degree, or in the final stages of their PhD studies. The Fellowships are open to candidates in any of the physical or biological sciences, in mathematics, in applied science, or in any branch of engineering. The Fellowship stipend payable in 2005 is £21,700 for the first year, and £22,800 for the second year. Candidates must be British or a citizen of the British Commonwealth or of the Republics of Ireland or Pakistan, and should preferably be less than thirty years old. Candidates must be recommended by Professors or Heads of Departments of Universities or equivalent. Recommendations must be received on or before 25th February 2005.
