National Geographic features IBRU Arctic Ocean mapping

In August 2008 IBRU published the first detailed map of maritime jurisdiction in the Arctic Ocean (http://www.dur.ac.uk/ibru/resources/arctic).

The map generated international media attention and has been widely used in both academic and popular articles about the future of the Arctic region.

Data from the map appears in a major feature on the Arctic in the May 2009 issue of National Geographic magazine (http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2009/05/healy/funk-text) and in a map accompanying an article on continental shelf rights in the 15th May issue of The Economist (http://www.economist.com/daily/chartgallery/displayStory.cfm?story_id=13681042). IBRU's work more generally is highlighted in a feature article in the May 2009 issue of Geographical magazine (http://www.geographical.co.uk/Home/index.html).
