Society President's Prize awarded to Durham Geographers

The Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Society recently awarded their President's prize to Professor Danny Donoghue, Dr Niko Galiatsatos, Jamil Mahmood & Marco Nebbia from the Department.
The prize was awarded in recognition of the best oral presentation at RSPSoc in 2011 for their contribution to the Society's Annual Conference on 'Earth Observation in a Changing World'.
Their paper, "Validating tropical Deforestation for REDD+" focused on the UN Collaborative programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD+) identified key challenges for quantifying deforestation rates in humid tropical forests in South America working with the Guyana Forestry Commission, Pöyry Management Consulting (NZ) Ltd. and Indufor Asia pacific Ltd.
