 Foundation Programme

Welcome

A lack of qualifications need not be a barrier to a university education. The Foundation Programme is a specially tailored multi-disciplinary course that prepares students who don't satisfy the traditional entry requirements for a university degree.

The Foundation Programme is a one-year, full time course (or two-years part-time) and can provide an alternative route for progression to a wide range of Durham University degrees for mature students, non-traditional learners and for international students who do not have the opportunity to study to A-Level standard.

Students will register for a four-year degree programme, with the Foundation year counting as year-zero. That means students taking the Foundation Programme are eligible for full student status and may receive financial support from their Local Education Authority and from The Student Loans Company.

Although the majority of our Foundation Programme students tend to be local and mature, the intake also includes people from all over the country, and an increasing number of students from overseas.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: International students who are interested in progressing to Law, Politics, Economics, Geography, Physics and Combined Social Science should contact the International Coordinator Collette O'Callaghan
