Experience Durham: Music and The Arts
Durham students are exceptionally creative and use their talents to produce endless performances throughout the year. Many groups are always looking for new students to get involved in their activities which range from performing, directing and producing for each terms spectacular variety of theatrical and musical productions. Across Durham and Queen's Campus there are over 30 different theatre companies and over 40 musical groups, not to mention the endless opportunities that are on offer within the colleges themselves.
In Durham, the home of student theatre is the Assembly Rooms, a 220-seat theatre, located on the Bailey opposite Hatfield College that has recently undergone a £100,000 refurbishment. Many performances take place here throughout term time and the venue can be hired to external organisations outside of term time.
All Durham University staff, students and members of the wider local community are very welcome and encouraged to attend any student theatre and music production. Details of forthcoming events can be found on the Experience Durham Events Calendar. If you are a member of Durham University staff, please contact experience.durham@durham.ac.uk if you would like to join the staff Theatre and Music Club. This is an informal group of staff, who meet on a regular basis to go and see a wide variety of student performances throughout the term, usually with a pre-or post-performance drink.
