About the College

Grey College was founded in 1959 by the University of Durham in response to a Government Report at the time that expressed concern about the shortage of scientists and engineers that were being trained in the UK. Originally, Grey admitted only men scientists and engineers, but that soon changed and now College members, of both genders, read for University courses across all faculties.Over the years the College has grown from an initial membership of 300 students to around 850 undergraduate and graduate students in 2011.
