Service Statement: Cleaning Services

Objectives

Estates and Buildings mission is:

To provide, maintain and develop a safe and high quality environment, in a professional, efficient and cost effective manner, to enable the University to fulfil its mission.

While the Director of Estates and Buildings has ultimate responsibility to Council for all property-related matters, it is the policy of Estates and Buildings in its day to day work to treat all parts of the University as its customer.

Service Objectives

  • To provide a safe and healthy working environment for all users of University accommodation.
  • To enhance the apprearance of accommodation and add value to delivery of the University's core activities.
  • To provide a cost effective service which secures best value for money.
  • To ensure that customers are aware of the nature and extent of the service provided.
  • To ensure that the operatives who deliver the service are adequately trained and supervised, and work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • To use wherever possible cleaning materials which are not harmful to the environment.

Service Provision

  • Estates and Buildings will provide the staffing, equipment and materials required to provide the agreed service, within the resources available.
  • Estates and Buildings will advise users of the times and days when accommodation is scheduled to be cleaned.
  • The service will be provided on weekdays except Bank Holidays and University customary days.

Customer Input

  • Users of accommodation are asked:
  • To leave areas clear for cleaning at the scheduled times.
  • To remove and/or clean crockery and cooking utensils, and remove food waste.
  • Dispose properly of any hazardous materials they use or produce so as not to put other people (including cleaners) at risk.
  • Where facilities are provided, put clean paper waste in designated containers/locations to be collected for recycling.
  • Report any specific cleaning needs/problems.
  • Tell us when areas do not need to be cleaned e.g. when an area will be unoccupied or unused for an extended period, and
  • Give adequate advance notice of cleaning requirements for special events.
