FAQ's

Year-round Pre-sessional

+Will I get a TIER 4 visa for this course?

No, we ask students to apply for a student visitor visa as your planned study is for less than 11 months.  If you are a sponsored student we may be able to provide you with a CAS.  Please ask for further details.

Please consult the UKBA website for further information.

+Do you provide accommodation?

We do not provide accommodation for students on this course. We can only guide you to the University colleges and the private accommodation office and they may be able to help you.  We also have a few homestay families for people who apply early.  Most of our students find their own private accommodation in the city.

+What if I don't have an IELTS (or equivalent) score? Can I still apply for the course?

No.  You need to have an IELTS (or equivalent) score when you apply for this course as we need evidence of your language level to issue you with a visa letter.  We also need an indication of your language ability to place you in the correct class and to set out goals for your study which are realistic.

You can take a test at any IELTS/TOEFL/PTE centre and these can be found in most countries around the world.

+I don't wish to study for the Certificate. Can I still join the course?

Not all students studying on the course always need or want to get the Certificate.  You can join at any point and for a term at a time and can join at any level.  You will always get a progress report and grade sheet from the University.

+What if I am only here one term at level 3 and cannot sit for the Certificate?

Students with offer letters and already at a high level of competency in English can study for a term without having to sit for the Certificate.

+I am interested only in improving my general English level for living and working or may be studying in the UK in the future. Is this course useful for me?

Yes.  Anyone can join although level 3 in particular will be directed more specifically towards academic study.

+I am not studying for the University Certificate. What qualification will I receive?

All students will receive a progress report, grade sheet and English Language Centre Certificate that indicates the length of their study here, subjects they have studied and their level of English.
