Foundation Pre-sessional English Language
The Foundation Pre-sessional programme at Durham is an intermediate-level academic English language programme for students wishing to improve their abilities in written and spoken English. Attention will be given to work on language skills at the phrase and sentence level. In addition, Foundation pre-sessional students will also engage with texts that they will encounter on their Foundation year at Durham University in specialist areas from various disciplines. Through this process they will develop an awareness of academic culture and be culturally well prepared for the demands of Foundation level study in the UK.
The programme will be made up of prospective undergraduate students to Durham University's Foundation Centre who have been offered a conditional place to study at Durham and who currently require a more foundation-level pre-sessional programme. Given the focus on academic register and study skills, many students with unconditional offers will also find our Foundation Pre-sessional programme excellent preparation for the academic road ahead.
