Shane is also a postdoctoral tutor in the Department of English Studies. He studied English and Sociology at Trinity College Dublin, where he was a Foundation Scholar, before coming to Durham University to study for his PhD under the supervision of Prof Corinne Saunders.
Shane is interested in the language of the body in medieval literature, with a focus on health and sexuality. His thesis examined the poetry of Chaucer, Dunbar and Henryson, and he is currently preparing portions of his thesis for publication. His broader focus is on the history of ideas in literature. He has tutored on modules including The Age of Chivalry, English Language and its History, Medieval Literature, and Chaucer, and has presented his research in England, Ireland and the United States.
