Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)
The School of Education will consider applications for APL against its taught postgraduate modules, in line with the University policy which can be found in the University's Teaching and Learning Handbook.
Students may seek APL against a maximum of two 30 credit modules contributing towards a Masters level or EdD programme. In considering APL requests the School of Education will assess evidence provided by the applicant against both learning outcomes and level descriptors of the modules for which accreditation is sought. Where applicable, judgments will be made against the School of Education's current level descriptors and assessment criteria, not those of the previous awarding institutions.
Applicants who are considering requesting APL are advised to contact the relevant programme director for an informal discussion (contact the programme secretary for further information). Applications for APL can be made once an applicant has received a conditional or unconditional offer of a place from the University. Applications for APL must be made prior to the start of the academic year in which the module for which exemption is sought is taught.
