About Your Offer
Receiving your offer
Candidates who have been successful in their application will receive official notification from the Student Recruitment and Admissions Office. If you are successful you will receive one of two types of offer:
Unconditional offer - this means you have met the entry requirements for your programme and do not need to take any further action other than to confirm your acceptance as soon as possible (see below).
Conditional offer - this means that you haven't yet met the entry requirements for your programme. You must meet the requirements before you can become a student at Durham University. Your offer letter will detail which conditions you are required to meet before your offer can become unconditional; for example, you may be required to achieve a satisfactory score in an English language test, or provide evidence of your academic qualifications. You will also be required to pay a tuition fee deposit if you are a self-financing overseas taught postgraduate applicant.
If you are required to submit any supporting documentation in order to meet the conditions of your offer it is important that you do this as soon as possible. This is particularly important if you require a visa as this process can take some time and cannot begin until your offer of place is confirmed. We would expect to receive this documentation within 14 days of you receiving your official offer letter. If possible, supporting documents should be sent as email attachments to your programme secretary; unfortunately we are not able to process all formats of attachment therefore please only send us JPEG, Word or PDF files. Applicants are asked to send particularly large attachments separately or by post. If you are unable to send your supporting documents by email, you can either post them to your programme secretary at the School of Education, or you can attach them via the on-line application system.
References: please note that it is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that references are forwarded to us on time - we are unable to follow up references on the applicant's behalf.
Accepting your offer
Regardless of whether you have a conditional or unconditional offer, you must contact the Student Recruitment and Admissions Office as soon as possible to confirm whether or not you will be accepting your offer. Please email pg.admissions@durham.ac.uk and quote the student reference number on your offer letter (you'll find this just below your address) and your name in the subject line of your email, e.g. "ST/000548572 Sam Blair".
Changes to your offer
Once you have received your offer it may be possible to make changes, for example, to defer your commencement date by one year. You should contact your programme secretary in the first instance to request any change to your offer.
