School of Education: Centre for Academic Practice

Centre for Academic Practice (CAP)

Durham’s Centre for Academic Practice is a leading centre for professional development in higher education. It enjoys an international reputation for its research into university teaching and learning, into the social and disciplinary contexts in which learning and research take place, and into the nature of leadership in academic practice.

We welcome colleagues from all departments and colleges of the University on to our Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP), a Higher Education Academy accredited programme. We also and invite postgraduate students from around the world to study on our full Master's awards in Academic Practice (MAAP) and Higher Education (MAHE). We offer EdD and PhD supervision on current issues in higher education policy and practice.

CAP plays a key role in developing and delivering the University’s Education Strategy, and we are always happy to offer advice and support to individuals and groups across the University. We enjoy collaborating with colleagues from all disciplines on projects and initiatives that seek to enhance the quality of research-led teaching at Durham.
