School of Engineering and Computing Sciences (ECS)

Research activities

The staff have formed strong collaborations with the Departments of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematical Sciences and Biological Sciences. This is reflected in the establishment of a number of Durham University-wide interdisciplinary research centres to which the Electronics staff make major contributions. In an exciting new project with Bioscientists, the group is pioneering a study into electrical interactions with the human nervous system to realise a sixth sense (a sixth way of getting information to and from our perception).

The group carries out research in two key areas.

  1. Molecular electronics and Microsystems technology
  2. Electronic systems and Communications

More details of each topic area can be found in the above links.
