Research
This section covers the research degrees available (MSc by research and PhD) together with the academic groupings and areas currently under investigation within the School.
At ECS, we perform research in a number of fields. Our work is organised through five Research and Teaching Groups. The School participated in RAE08 and received detailed feedback in January 2009. Of the research output assessed, all (100%) was identified as being of International Quality and over 70% was recognised as Internationally Excellent or World Leading (3* and 4*). The School was particularly praised for its research impact and the panel singled out our excellent research support and training arrangements.
Research in the School is often undertaken in close collaboration with industry. We have a strong record of successful technology transfer through KTP (Knowledge Transfer Partnerships) projects. Investigations not funded solely by industry are supported through EPSRC, Royal Society, BIS and EU grants. We are keen to welcome and support bright junior researchers, who wish to apply for EPSRC and Royal Society Fellowships, through our ECS Fellowship Scheme.
Each year Research Day is held in the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences where PhD students and Research Associates present their projects and latest results to all members.
