Generation adequacy and capacity credits
Introduction by Prof Janusz Bialek.
Due to the uncertainty in its available output, the contribution of wind generation to securing demand for electric power must be quantified differently from that of conventional thermal generation. This talk will describe how this may be done through the concept of 'capacity credit', defined here as the additional demand which the wind generation can support without increasing system risk. Methods for visualising the wind resource at time of peak demand, and the effects of limited available wind data, will also be discussed.
