Steve Smith wins the Geological Society President's Award

(1 February 2008)

Steve Smith – a third year PhD student in this Department (http://www.dur.ac.uk/earth.sciences/staff/?id=2834) - has been given one of the Geological Society’s President's Awards for 2008. Two or three of these are awarded annually to young researchers of exceptional promise and ability in the Earth Sciences and are in the gift of the President of the Geological Society of London, the main body that represents professional and academic Earth Scientists in the UK. The Current President is Dr Richard Fortey (a palaeontologist). Steve is currently a holder of a University Doctoral Fellowship and is also a Durham graduate. The award is especially noteworthy since it is usually made to Postdoctoral-level researchers or Lecturers. Well Done Steve!
