Postgrad wins International Midland Valley Structural Geology Prize 2005
(25 January 2006)
Robert Wilson – known to all of us as Woody – has just picked up the Postgraduate First Prize in the International Midland Valley Structural Geology Prize 2005 for his PhD research work in the Lofoten, Norway. This is an international competition held each year open to all comers at both Postgraduate and Undergraduate levels (for details see: http://www.mve.com/Home/Company/Structural_Prize ) Woody was the only UK-based winner, the others coming from Italy, Venezuela and Ireland. Here is what Alan Gibbs (Midland Valley Managing Director had to say about Woody’s project: “This year's 1st Prize Postgraduate winner of $2,000 is Robert Wilson from Durham University, for his really well put together and insightful work on basment structure controlling later deformation. That pushed some personal interest buttons for me, going way back to my own undergaduate work. Robert shows a real grasp for traditional tools, as well as being fluent in his use of sesimic and the new digital mapping games. “
