Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TeLSR).

Established early in 2006 Durham Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TeLSR) is a rapidly developing centre of excellence for research into terrestrial laser-scanning.

Spearheaded by the Department of Earth Sciences in collaboration with University spin-out company Geospatial Research Ltd & industry partner Halcrow Group Ltd, it aims to undertake fundamental research into the use and application of laser scanning technologies in the Earth Sciences. TeLSR possesses a high degree of expertise founded on well-developed collaborative partnerships with laser scanning & survey companies & the academic sector.

Currently the facility comprises 3 scanners, state-of-the art 3D immersive visualisation facilities, Survey grade Real-Time Kinematic GPS, mapping grade Differential GPS, and research staff. Future plans include the development of a conformity testing facility for laser scanners.

GRL specialises in digital mapping and survey, and the application of geospatial technologies in petroleum and mineral exploration.
