Visualization Laboratory
Earth Scientists using the 3D HIVE
The Durham Visualization Laboratory (DVL) is an interdisciplinary research facility that provides advanced visualization capabilities for research groups across the University.
The Laboratory is located on the ground floor of the eScience building, it is capable of hosting small group visualization sessions with up to twenty people and has a range of individual visualization workstations.

The Laboratory hosts a range of advanced graphics systems ranging from high-end PC hosted graphics devices to large Silicon Graphics visualization servers. In addition there are a wide range of stereoscopic 3D display systems including small PDA 3D screens, laptop and desktop 3D displays and a large 3m diagonal stereoscopic projection system. The projection system can be used as a large personal desktop display, a group presentation display and as a VR HIVE with wireless 3D head and wand tracking devices.
Preparing an experimental trial.
The Visualization Laboratory is a flexible environment designed equally to support application users and experimental visualization researchers. It can rapidly be reconfigured to host demonstrations to visiting researchers or to be a low lighting environment for experimental work investigating 3D visualization techniques.
