Extensions to coursework deadlines

DUSSD may, on occasion, recommend that your academic department consider granting extensions to submission deadlines, if necessary. However, compliance with such a recommendation is solely at the discretion of the department. There is no guarantee that an extension to a coursework submission deadline will be granted. A Disability Adviser can liaise with your department on your behalf.

Problems with extensions

If you are thinking of requesting an extension, ask yourself the following questions:

  • How will the extension granted for one deadline impact upon the other deadlines you have to meet?
  • Is there a risk that you may end up 'bunching deadlines' too closely together?
  • If you had support in developing your study skills, would this help you to meet deadlines more effectively?

Remember, receiving an extension to a deadline is only a short-term solution and can actually create more problems.
