Durham University Service for Students with Disabilities

Prospective Students

Should I contact DUSSD?

Yes, if any of the following apply to you:

  • I am a UK student. I know I have support needs and I am considering applying to Durham University.
  • I am an International student. I know I have support needs and I am considering applying to Durham University.
  • I have a place at Durham University and I know I will have support needs when I begin my course.
  • I had support at school, but am unsure if I will still need this at university.
  • I think I may need support, but I am unsure if I qualify.
  • I need help with applying for Disabled Students' Allowances (DSA).
  • I know I have a support need but am unsure if I want to disclose it to the university.

Once you have applied, you may be contacted by DUSSD and asked to complete and return a Request for Information form.

Disabled Students' Allowances

If your query relates to applying for Disabled Students' Allowances (DSA), we would urge you to contact us well in advance of the start of term. Delays in applying for DSA can result in delayed receipt of equipment and support.

If you have particularly complex support needs which may involve input from external agencies, such as local social services teams, then we would urge you to contact DUSSD for advice as soon as you apply for your chosen programme.
