Electrical Design

DUSC uses high efficiency silicon solar cells to harness the sun’s energy. The output from these cells is then passed through one of 8 maximum power point trackers (MPPT’s) which ensure the maximum possible power is extracted from the cells. These are then connected to 4 sealed gel lead-acid batteries provided by our technical partner C&D Technologies. These batteries are specifically designed for deep discharge applications which make them ideal for use in a solar powered vehicle. Power is then fed on demand to our specially designed axial flux wheel motor via a custom built controller. This combination means extremely high efficiency and zero transmission loss.
