Diversity and Equality

Policies, Strategy and Action Plan

Durham has representatives of 126 nationalities. We are already a diverse community and are committed to promoting diversity and equality of opportunity for all staff and students. In fact this is one of Durham's 8 core values and forms part of the University's Strategic Plan.  Through our robust planning and performance management arrangements we are working towards embedding diversity and equality at all levels right across our organisation.

As part of this we have a number of key policies, strategies and action plans which steer our work.

Policy

The University has a Diversity and Equality Policy which sets out the University's commitment towards diversity and equality.  This policy is currently under review.

A World University

We are welcoming increasing numbers of students, staff and visitors from outside the UK and are well established in the Top 100 Universities in the world.  Durham is truly a World University and our World University Document outlines how we provide a welcoming environment for people of all creeds, cultures and nationalities recognising the importance of a diversity in ideas and education.

Action Plan

As part of our response to the Equality Act 2010, the University has published a set of Equality Objectives which will guide our activities for the next four years.  The University is committed to delivering against these objectives and will be developing annual action plans to plan and monitor our performance.  The first of these plans for the academic year 2012 - 2013 is currently being finalised and will be published here shortly.
