Durham World Heritage Weekend 2012

A weekend of free activities to celebrate International World Heritage Day including free tours and walks of the World Heritage Site, The Bailey, The Riverbanks, storytelling, and arts & crafts activities for children and families.
Children's Activities: Discover Durham Differently
Saturday April 21st and Sunday April 22nd, 10.30 am to 4pm
Tall stories, badgemaking, giant drawing, and easy as ABC - with illustrator Sam Church.
Durham Tales: Storytelling with Dave Spencer and Paul Moss.
At: Durham World Heritage Site Visitor Centre.
Free Tours and Walks
Guided Nature Walks of the Riverbanks, Saturday 21st April 11am, 1pm and 3pm.
Craft activities for children from 11am to-3pm.

Join Durham Cathedral's Woodlands and Riverbanks project team for a day of outdoor fun to celebrate World Heritage Site weekend. Families are invited to take part in a series of nature walks on Saturday 21st April. Walks will take place at 11.00am, 1.00pm and 3.00pm along the riverbanks. Each walk will last approximately 30 - 40 minutes and is suitable for families and accompanied children. There will also be some simple craft activities for children to enjoy - drop in anytime between 11.00am and 3.00pm. Find us on the riverbanks below Prebend's bridge between the storyteller's chair and the boathouses. The event will also be an opportunity to find out more about the Cathedral's new Woodlands and Riverbanks project and the John Muir Family Award , an environmental award scheme all about wild places http://www.jmt.org/jmaward-individual-family.asp

The Lost Buildings of Durham - join this guided walk and Durham expert Martin Roberts, as he pieces together the evidence from engravings, the written word and fragments of surviving stone.

Lost buildings are vitally important to the study of any historic town. We need to know both why they were built and why they disappeared. They provide the missing stepping stones in understanding the narrative of a city's architectural history.
Lost buildings are also fun....piecing together the evidence from engravings, the written word and fragments of surviving masonry is hugely rewarding. So come and get a taste of the Lost Buildings of Durham. The tour will last approx 1½ to 2 hrs.
