'The centenary of the discovery of cosmic rays: the end of the beginning' Lecture

(20 April 2012)

Arnold Wolfendale, Emeritus Professor of Physics and 14th Astronomer Royal will be delivering a lecture on Sunday 29th April at 2.15 pm in The Old Library at Grey College.

In 1912, Victor Hess embarked on a perilous balloon ascent and discovered the 'cosmic radiation' was actually a beam of atomic particles. Whole areas of Science have been stimulated by the discovery. The lecture will deal with the discovery, the implications, Durham's role and where we go from here.
