John Loughhead

John Loughhead is Executive Director of the UK Energy Research Centre and previously was Vice-President of Technology and Intellectual Property for the Alstom group, based at its head office in Paris, having spent his career in industrial research and development.
He has been extensively involved in national and European public sector technology programmes, as a member of various advisory committees and chair of policy reviews in the area of future electric power systems. He is a member of the Defence Scientific Advisory Council Technology Board, assessor for the DTI Technology Programme, and advisor to both the Foresight Programme and the European Commission Directorate-General Research.
John is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College, London, where he also spent five years in computational fluid dynamics research. He is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow and Trustee of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, and Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
John is currently Deputy President of the IET, Chair of its Audit Committee, Remuneration Committee, and of its Energy Sector Panel. He was until recently a member of the EPSRC Council, and Chair of the User Panel.
