Cross Country Runs
The countryside around Durham is ideal for Cross Country running, and there are several 'named' runs which all members tend to know. However it is not difficult to make up your own routes - once you've got your head around where the river goes!

The main club cross country runs are wednesday and sunday (and the fartlek on monday) and we tend to run anywhere from 45 minutes to 1hr30mins. Initially we try to keep the groups together until everyone knows the route.
There are plenty of hills to train on, and it is easy to get off the road to help avoid injury.

Both the Sunday and Wednesday runs are not intended to be threshold runs, instead they are meant to help you 'get in the miles' in between the main tuesday and thursday sessions.

Here are some of the DUAXC runs:

Prison Run (40 - 60 minutes)
Shin Cliffs (50 - 90 mintues)
Mad Cow (45 - 60 minutes)
Bear Park (55 - 90 minutes)
Finchale Priory (80 - 120 minutes)
Langley Park (80 - 120 minutes)

Often personal routes are very road-based, but we try to avoid road as much as possible. Durham is also a very confusing place to go running if you haven't been here for a while, and its good to run with the club at least a few times before you do them on your own. There should always be separate groups to cater for the different abilities of runners.
