Cross Country

Cross Country at Durham is extremely well attended. Last year we managed to take 6 teams to the BUCS Championships in Bath. We have also been very successful with the Men's A Team coming 3rd in the University Relays Series, and in having the BUCS Women's gold medalist.

Most of the season is in preparation for BUCS, and we run in various events. The Relays series races are about 3k long, whereas the Edinburgh Braids is a gruellingly hilly 10k. Often the club will attend local road or cross country races too. Although most of the season is over by the end of the second term, after exams there are a few more road races, such as the Blaydon race, which are a great way to unwind after exams.

There is a lot of information on the website concerning athletics at Durham, including our training schedule which can be found here. However, if your question is not answered, please get in touch with the Cross Country Captian, whose details are above, or come down to training and ask a member of the club.

There is no pressure to win races in the club, if you just want to compete for fun then that is fine, indeed there is not even an obligation to compete if all you want to do is train. However events such as the BUCS Cross Country are fantastic experiences; running on some of the best courses, against Britain's fastest runners - the feeling of elation and satisfaction afterwards is unbeatable!
