Easter Warm Weather Training

Easter Warm Weather Training is in preparation for the BUCS Outdoor Championships. For the past couple of years we have gone to Monte Gordo, Portugal. However this is subject to change each year. Some information about the place can be found below:

The Vila Real de St. António Sports Centre, is a municipal facility in the western Algarve, and is well known as a training site for professional and national teams in various sports. The centre has all the technical facilities for perfect training. The athletics stadium has an excellent track, very good jumping facilities and outside the stadium there are dedicated facilities for throwers as well as a series of running trails in the pine forest. The complex has an indoor gymnasium and training facilities for sprinting, hurdling and jumping. There is also a Sports Hall for basketball, handball and 5-a-side football plus 2 grass football pitches and 4 tennis courts. A 3 lane 50m training swimming pool is also being built next to the 8 lanes 25m indoor swimming pool. |
Training facilities include:
8 lanes polytan 400m running track
Indoor Athletic Sports Hall with 80m straight, High Jump, Pole Vault, Long & Triple Jump
Hurdles, blocks & implements
Gym with Olympic free weights
2.3 km jogging trail loop
8.5 km of pine wood trails
20 km flat beach to run on
This means that it is not only perfect for track and field athletes but is also well worth it for longer, cross country runners who want some summer sun at easter. The Warm Weather trips are by no means all training and no relaxation, and the atmosphere is always fantastic. Definately a great way to bond pre-BUCS.
Destination may change from year to year. If you want more information then contact the athletics captain. News about WWT will generally be sent out by email in November. Also reports from previous websites can be found on the old websites.
