Cranmer Hall Theological College
Generations of Christians have been drawn to Durham to live, study, worship and prepare for Christian ministry and mission. Located beside Durham's lively and iconic cathedral, Cranmer Hall is an Anglican theological college, rooted in the evangelical tradition but hospitable to a wide range of Christians from a huge range of denominations. Cranmer has a rich heritage of missional engagement and an energetic vision for the future.
Your formation for ministry at Cranmer Hall will root you in scripture and prayer. It will equip you to read the culture, enable you to serve the Church, help you to work across denominational boundaries, and resource you to proclaim the gospel afresh in the 21st century. This is mission-shaped training for a mission-shaped church.
We invite you to live and work in a community in which you will discover your gifts, grow spiritually, receive a first-class theological education, be equipped for mission, and encounter the breadth of the Anglican tradition.
Cranmer is a great place to study and live and grow. We are a vibrant community, passionate about the Lord and the good news of His Kingdom. We place high value on studying the Bible, on mission and relevant communication, on Christian leadership and on the development of men and women of God who are equipped for the ‘long haul’ of ministry. Here people of all races and backgrounds, men and women of many denominations, pray together, learn together, eat together, laugh and cry together and ‘grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.’
If you are considering training for ministry of any kind do come and visit. We would love to welcome you to the community.
The Revd Mark Tanner takes up the post of Warden of Cranmer Hall in the summer of 2011. Mark comes to Cranmer with a wealth of parish experience, having been Vicar of Holy Trinity, Ripon, and, prior to that, vicar of St Mary's Wheatley, which includes Doncaster’s Red light district. He has been an Area Dean, an Army Chaplain, and a youth worker. Mark has written widely on church renewal. He is combines such work with being a husband, father, and motorcyclist.

This is a place that is about passion. The students are passionate about the community in which they live, passionate about learning more about Jesus and passionate about mission and ministry in a post-Christian culture. Right here, in the shadow of Durham's ancient cathedral, we seek to be open to the Spirit in exploring new forms of mission, learning to communicate the gospel afresh in a media-dominated culture, and developing skills of leadership and pioneering for the 21st Century church.
If those are your passions too, I hope you will join us.
