Socials
This page is all about what DUCB gets up to outside rehearsals and concerts. Our social secretary is Clary and part of her role is to organise socials for us, and socials are crucial to the set up of the band. Suggestions or queries about socials should be sent to clarinda.grundy@durham.ac.uk, or just catch Clary at rehearsals.
DUCB aims to organise regular socials for its members because - as everyone knows - all work and no play makes for a grumpy band and conductor! The whole exec love a good social, Clary knows how to enjoy them, and the rest of the exec, especially Tam, and the rest of the band know how to enjoy them. More seriously, it's great if everyone can get together outside rehearsals and concerts so you can get to know more people than just your desk partner! It also makes for a more relaxed atmosphere at rehearsals, and once you see the exec on a social...well, you will have a lot of banter for them! The nights out with Concert Band are worth going on just to see Tam's crazy dance moves, and when the game 'Never Have I Ever' is brought out there are many surprises. The daytime socials are also worth going on as they show you that most of the band aren't a drunken wreck all the time. Past socials have included:
-A trip to Sunderland Empire Theatre to see 'Guys and Dolls'
-A trip to see 'Miss Saigon'
-Meals out at restaurants
-The amazingness of *free* buffet at The Hog's Head
-Themed bar crawls
-Joint socials with other societies
-Picnic and Botanical Gardens
-Impromptu post-concert socials after every concert
